Meet the dynamic duo behind Immersive Spanish: Joe and Kav.
Our journey began unexpectedly in a Spanish classroom, where fate placed us side by side. No older than 14, we didn’t do so well in class, but fortunately, a deep friendship blossomed. Fast forward five years to 2015, when Kav embarked on a transformative journey after a weekend escapade to Switzerland. Surrounded by multilingual individuals effortlessly conversing in English, Kav was immediately captivated by the power of language. That moment ignited a fervent desire to become bilingual, with Spanish chosen as the language of choice.
Returning home on a Sunday evening, Kav wasted no time. The following morning, armed with determination, Duolingo became the trusted companion on the language-learning quest. Yet, it became evident that mere app-based learning wouldn't suffice. Immersion was the missing piece of the puzzle. Seizing the opportunity during a gap year, Kav embarked on a life-changing journey to Medellin, Colombia, where six months of cultural immersion solidified Spanish as an integral part of life.
The allure of immersion, with its transformative benefits, became undeniable. From that point on, the passion for language and the power of immersion became the driving force behind Immersive Spanish.
We know what works
I don’t want to talk for everybody, but class never once ignited that passion for language. In that environment, Spanish was just another obligation I tried to stay on top of.
When it comes to learning, we’re all aware of the power of immersive experiences. Joe and I both know, having dragged our feet at school, that immersion is also the biggest motivation. Thus, the birth of "Immersive Spanish"! While we can't physically whisk you away to foreign lands, our podcast aims to transport you through rich, authentic experiences captured in each episode.
